 Volunteer Opportunities

The CCLC is dependent on the team of volunteer tutors who provide one-on-one tutoring to Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) students and to individuals who participate in the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program and the Teaching Children To Read Program.  Additional volunteer opportunities are available in general office support, mailings, technical help (computers and video), and assisting with special events

Become a Tutor -----It’s a rewarding way to help the community!

(all tutors must be high school graduates and at least 18 years of age)

Our volunteers provide over 6000 hours of instruction each year!

Tutors help our students in many ways:

  • Reading, writing, and math
  • Life skills
  • Preparation for a G.E.D. class
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at the Warder Literacy Center in Springfield
  • Computer assisted learning

Prospective tutors learn from experienced Tutor Trainers:

  • Nine hours of training
  • New tutor training provided 10 months a year
  • Daytime, evening, and weekend training available
  • Learning styles and teaching techniques
  • Up-to-date teaching materials
  • Sensitivity training
  • Training for those interested in working with ESOL students, Teaching Children to Read students and basic literacy students.

Most tutors work with a single student twice a week for 60 to 90 minutes.
