The Clark County
Literacy Coalition (CCLC) is delighted to offer you the opportunity
to support the PICK-A-Pack project provided by the Warder Literacy
Center to qualified families in Clark County.
The "PICK"
in PICK-A-Pack stands for "Parents Increasing Children's Knowledge".
This family literacy project consists of backpacks filled with parent/child
interactive activities and books, designed to help parents become
their child's best teacher and to strengthen the family unit. The
backpacks are available for checkout to adult students enrolled
in literacy education. A participant family may choose a Pack, enjoy
its contents, and retain the material to build their children's
home library. The student completes an evaluation form and the backpack
is returned empty after one week so it may be refilled for another
family to enjoy.
The PICK-A-Pack
project has been very popular with adult students and families attending
programs at the Warder Literacy Center. Approximately 20 backpacks
are circulated each month at a cost of $300 a year per backpack.
The response of our students to this program has been very positive.
However, purchasing books and activities for many backpacks is a
continuing challenge.
Should you
choose to support your community by sponsoring a backpack for a
year with a donation of $300, your business will be fostering parent/child
relationships. You will encourage education at home, build home
libraries in low-income households, and help parents become their
child's best teacher. The return on this small investment in your
community will help to fight the cost of illiteracy to businesses
and taxpayers currently estimated at $20 billion annually.
In return,
the CCLC will identify your company as a sponsor on a backpack dedicated
to a theme of your choosing. You may select from our list of themes
or propose a new theme. Your organization will be listed as a supporter
of the PICK-A-Pack project on the Honor Wall in the lobby of the
Warder Literacy Center. In addition, you will be mentioned in each
issue of our Volunteer Newsletter for an entire year and listed
on our web site, www.clarkcountyliteracy.org.
We hope you
will accept this opportunity to become a supporter of the Warder
Literacy Center's PICK-A-Pack project and join other community leaders
in supporting the efforts of the Clark County Literacy Coalition.
